The Peace of Wild Things
Canzona chante avec ses soeurs canadiennes
This quilt was constructed in honor of our upcoming tour to Ottawa and Montreal in Spring 2024. The name of the quilt, The Peace of Wild Things, is taken from the beautiful poetry of Wendell Berry, which has been set to a lyrical and moving choral piece by Joan Szymko. The Canzona singers love this piece and have sung it in two concerts in the past.
Quilt InspirationTwo of our singers, Nicki Edwards and Janice Mehring, collaborated in designing and constructing the quilt. They wanted the design to reflect the beauty of the natural worlds of Eastern Canada and San Luis Obispo County - hence, the snow-covered mountains, beautiful lake, and some of the indigenous Canadian wildlife on one end of the quilt, and the dry, rocky hills overlooking the ocean with its local, Central California sea life on the other end. Rising, noontime, and setting suns in the sky unite the two scenes. The quilt measures approximately 44" x 28". It includes a sleeve for hanging on the back.

About the RaffleThe proceeds of the quilt raffle will help fund the choir’s travel expenses to Canada. The drawing will be held at the Canzona spring concert on March 10, 2024, at the San Luis Obispo United Methodist Church. Although you do not need to be present to win, we hope you will come to that concert to hear the music we will sing on our Canadian tour.

Canzona Goes to Canada!
Canzona singers are excited to be returning to Canada in June of 2024 to share the stage with two outstanding ensembles, Cantiamo Women’s Choir of Ottawa and Chorale du Gesú of Montreal.
Directors Jackie Hawley (Ottawa) and Patricia Abbott (Montreal) will be our hosts for two concerts featuring four selections for our combined voices as well as a 20-minute set for each choir. Canzona will present all the tour repertoire to our local audience on our March 10th concert Weaving Women’s Voices.
We met Jackie and Patricia through a weekly Zoom meeting for directors of women’s choirs across Canada and around the U.S. and have become fast friends, so we’re really looking forward to meeting them in person!
